Read more: how days, months and working days are counted

By default the count includes the start date but not the end date, the way most people count "days until" something. From 1 January to 31 December is 364 days, or 365 if you tick the box to count the end date as well. Count both dates for things like hotel stays, leave or a contract that runs to a set date.

The formula

days = end date − start date (+ 1 to count the end date)
working days = days that fall Monday to Friday
new date = start date ± number of days

Worked example

From 1 March 2026 to 1 April 2026 is 31 days (31 days in March). Of those, 22 are Mondays to Fridays, so there are 22 working days. Adding 31 days to 1 March gives 1 April again.

Working days

Working days are the Mondays to Fridays among the days counted, so the end date is only included if you tick the box. Public holidays are not taken off, because they differ by country and region. Subtract any that fall in your range.

Months and years

Months don't all have the same number of days, so the years, months and days breakdown counts whole calendar months first, then the days left over. From 31 January to 1 March is 1 month and 1 day (a month ends on 28 or 29 February).

Adding working days

Adding working days skips Saturdays and Sundays. Adding 10 working days to a Friday lands on the Friday two weeks later.
