    Age is counted in whole years since your birthday, then whole months since your last "month-day", then the days left over. This is the same way people say their age, and the way most official forms ask for it.

    The formula

    years = full years since your last birthday
    months = full months since that birthday
    days = days left over

    Worked example

    Someone born on 15 May 1990 is 36 on 15 May 2026. On 9 October 2026 that is 4 more months (to 15 September) and 24 more days, so they are 36 years, 4 months and 24 days old.

    Months of different lengths

    When the birth day doesn't exist in a month, for example the 31st in a 30-day month, the month is counted as complete on the last day of that month. People born on 29 February have their birthday counted on 28 February in years that aren't leap years.
