How your sale price is worked out

Sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100). Any extra discount comes off the sale price.

  1. 1

    Make a multiplier

    1 − 0.2 = 0.8

  2. 2

    Multiply the price

    ₹2,000 × 0.8 =
    ₹1,600

  3. 3

    Any extra discount

    No extra % off:
    ₹1,600

  4. 4

    What you save

    ₹2,000 − ₹1,600 =
    ₹400 (20% off)

sale price = price × (1 − discount ÷ 100)

Worked example

20% off 2,000 is 2,000 × 0.8 = 1,600, a saving of 400.

Two discounts don't simply add up

"20% off, plus an extra 10% off" is not 30% off. The extra 10% comes off the already-reduced price: 2,000 × 0.8 × 0.9 = 1,440, a total discount of 28%. The calculator shows the real total so you can compare offers fairly.

Quick mental maths

  • 10% off: move the decimal point one place left and subtract.
  • 25% off: take away a quarter.
  • 50% off: halve it.
